Surge of Women Running for Office Is Topic of July 25 Media Briefing

Media Briefing on Record Number of Women Running for Office

WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, July 25, the Freedom Forum Institute, in collaboration with the Women’s Media Center and Swanee Hunt Alternatives, will host a media briefing on the status of a record number of women running for political office, and the intersection and impact of gender, race and politics.

Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers-New Brunswick, and a leading expert in the field will present an analysis of women running for political office in 2018.

This briefing also will feature non-partisan, Democratic and Republican experts on women candidates and political leadership, including:

  • Glynda Carr, co-founder, Higher Heights
  • Julie Conway, executive director, VIEW PAC
  • Mũthoni Wambu Kraal, vice president, national outreach and training, EMILY’s List
  • María Teresa Kumar, president and CEO, Voto Latino
  • Rebecca Schuller, Winning For Women
