How to Apply

Applications for the 2019 conference are no longer being accepted

To qualify as an applicant for this program:

• You must be a high school junior who will graduate in the Class of 2020.
• You must be committed to pursuing a career in journalism.
• You must demonstrate qualities of a “free spirit.”
• You must be available to attend the conference June 14-20, 2019, in Washington, D.C.
• You must fill out the application completely. Unfinished applications will not be considered.
• Applications must be submitted by Feb. 1, 2019.

Please follow the instructions carefully. We recommend you download the application instructions (PDF) to refer to as you complete the application.

Letters of recommendation may be uploaded, mailed separately, or emailed to info@freespirit.org. All letters of recommendation should be submitted on official letterhead and should include the contact information of the person providing it.
