Julieta Martinelli (Summer 2017) briefly stepped away from her internship duties at Nashville Public Radio’s WPLN to return home to Atlanta, where she was sworn in as a United States citizen on July 21. “I immigrated to the United States with my mom and brother from Argentina in August 1997,” she writes. “Toward the end of 2010 I finally became a legal resident. Even then, I had to wait another year to establish ‘legal residency’ and be able to enroll in college. I graduated with my B.A. in May, and on June 22, two months shy of my 20-year anniversary living in the U.S., my citizenship was finally approved.”
