Fifty one aspiring journalists from around the country will meet in Washington, D.C., for the annual Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference. The five-day conference, from June 20-25, is hosted by the Newseum Institute and is designed to inspire and encourage high school students to pursue careers in journalism.

Seminars and programs will take place throughout the nation’s capital, including a tour of the USA Today newsroom in McLean, Va., and a taping of “Meet the Press” at the NBC Studios, hosted by Chuck Todd. Todd also will lead a discussion with the students about the news media.

Throughout the conference, students will take part in panel discussions with journalists from The Washington Post, Politico, and CNN on the role of a free and responsible press.

The conference concludes with the Free Spirit Journalism Scholars Graduation ceremony, where students will receive medals for participating in the conference.

The Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference began in 1999 and is funded by the Newseum Institute to honor Al Neuharth, founder of USA Today, the Newseum and the Freedom Forum.
